Do you buy into the maxim "If you want it done right, do it yourself?" What
if you could open the door to innovation, new ideas and an optimal end
result and enjoy your work even more? Collaboration unleashes the power
that comes from complementary insights, skills, and talents. It creates
outcomes that are better than single efforts and can be used for many
aspects of your work, leadership, and creative efforts. Assess your
collaborability and learn ways to make collaboration an every day
practice and a source of energy and vitality. Solopreneurs and small
business owners who have included collaboration in their practices
report being transformed and renewed by moving beyond the “stand alone”
model. According to the 2010 IBM Global CEO Survey, industry CEOs look
for more creative collaboration and the ability to leverage the diverse
talents of the workforce, especially during this complex economic
time. Collaboration is even more important for your business!
Attendees will learn to:
-
Expand your view of collaboration and its uses
-
Use the Collaborability Assessment to identify areas of strength &
opportunities for growth

What is a virtual book discussion group?
Interactive,
informative and fun, a virtual discussion group is just like attending an
in-person book group but instead of driving, parking and making sure your
hair is combed, all you need is a free hour and a phone! The discussion
groups meet by phone for one hour on the dates listed above.
The commitment to the group will keep you on target with the reading and the
discussion will help you find ways to apply the ideas to your own work and
life.
Comments from previous participants:
"This class was full of great information, thought provoking, a great way to
get through a book!"
AS, Pennsylvania
“With
pressures at work it always seems that reading for improvement and enjoyment
never makes it to the top of the schedule - the virtual book club helped me
reorganize my priorities in this area.”
ML, Arizona
"Debbie keeps
the discussions moving with thought provoking questions before and during
the calls. She also promotes a non-threatening and cooperative atmosphere in
which we are comfortable asking and receiving help from the other
participants. The discussions are informative and fun."
LB, Delaware
“Exner & Associates
the business that gets you talking, thinking, learning
and having fun
again reading.”

Switch: How to Change
When Change is Hard
Date: Mondays February 6,13 & 27, 2012
Time:
6:00-7:00 pm AZ/MST time, 8:00-9:00 pm EST
Group Size: 8-12 people
Fee: $49; $29 early bird rate if you register by 1/10/12
Change is hard. If you've
been making the same resolutions year after year, maybe it's time to try a
new approach. In this book, Dan and Chip Heath present the results of
research and, more importantly, come up with a method we can use to
bring about change -- whether in our organizations or in our own personal
habits.
Review as much of the book
as you can before the first call. It's also available in kindle and audio
editions and the authors have posted useful summaries and podcasts online.
During the first call we'll discuss the framework and ways that we can use
the Rider, Elephant and Path analogy to be more successful.
On the second call, we'll
strategize about how to use the Switch method for our own changes, either
organizational or personal, and then spend the following two weeks
applying our ideas.
On the final call, we'll
compare notes, celebrate progress and insights and decide on strategy
revisions.
"Anyone interested in
influencing others -- to buy, to vote, to learn, to diet, to give to
charity or to start a revolution -- can learn from this book." --

Spark: The Revolutionary Science of Exercise and the Brain
Date: Thursdays March 1, 15 & 22, 2011
Time:
6:00-7:00 pm AZ/MST time, 8:00-9:00 pm EST
Group Size: 8-12 people
Fee: $49; $29 early bird rate if you register by 1/10/11
If you want to be motivated to get back in shape
or maintain your exercise routine, this book will move you to action!
From the dust jacket: In Spark, John J.
Ratey, MD, takes you on a fascinating journey through the mind-body
connection, presenting startling new research to prove that exercise is
truly the best defense against everything from mood disorders to ADHD to
addiction to menopause to Alzheimer's. He explains that the brain works just
as muscles do -- growing with use, withering with inactivity -- and shows
why getting your heart and lungs pumping can mean the difference between a
calm, focused mind and a harried, inattentive self.
This book is available at libraries and through
Amazon, including kindle and audio editions. There are chapters covering
specific aspects such as Learning, Stress, Attention Deficit and Aging. If
you don't have time to read the entire book, begin with the short summary
that you'll receive and choose the chapters that are most important to you.
Through the discussions you will develop ideas
about how to apply what you've learned to your own needs and goals and the
support of the group will help you stick with it!
