About Debra's Half Marathon Fund Raiser for the International Myeloma Foundation
I walked the PF Chang Half Marathon (13.1 miles) in Phoenix on Sunday
January 13,
2008. Please help me to raise money for the International Myeloma
Foundation (IMF).
To donate to my cause by credit card, please go to IMF Events Page Or send a check made out to IMF and mail it to: My progress (check back for updates): Miles walked in
training & half marathon: 134.6 Why?
When my
Mom, Edamay Exner, was diagnosed with myeloma in February of 1998, we
found the IMF. I listened over and over again to tapes of the most
recent IMF Patient & Family Seminar and began to learn a whole new language
and about our options. In June, Mom, my son Chris and I attended our
first seminar in Miami. It was not only a great learning experience, it
was a great way for us to bond together and with others to make the best
choices possible. And the hotline was there for us when the going got
rough.
The Philadelphia
Multiple Myeloma Networking Group was also a huge part of our lives. It
is one of the many support groups that the IMF assists. As a leader of
that support group for many years, I watched hundreds of people find
hope at a very vulnerable time in their lives. The group is still
going strong since my move to Phoenix 2 years ago and I walked in
honor of all my PMMNG friends as well as my Mom.
Good information,
research and new treatments gave my Mom and me six+ years together to
travel, create fun times and great memories. Let's help to do the same
and better for many others ... until there is a cure!
